Coloured contact lenses are usually broken down into category. There are contacts set around Halloween, the most popular time for wearing them to compliment your costume. There are theatrical lens. They have now made lens to copy those of your favourite villains and characters on TV. They are perfect for use if you are performing on stage in the theatre or that special photo shoot or even just to go to your local night club for that crazy look. All the special effects lens are non-prescription and just for show but you can get coloured lens in prescription colours too. They are perfectly safe and do not affect your vision at all.
There are different processes for making coloured contacts but one method used is ‘Gel Edged Technology’. This type of lens is extremely comfortable and durable. The process makes them smoother and more comfortable to wear than many other coloured lenses. A vibrant colour layer gives a vivid yet natural colour enhancement to your eye. There is a dark ring around the edge of the lens which enhances the iris pattern and adds a youthful look to your eye. An ultra thin layer is then put on top of the colour layer to seal in the colour giving a deeper texture to these lenses.
Coloured contacts are usually more noticeable on people with dark eyes. There are two types of coloured lens that are on the market today. The first is an ‘enhancement’ lens which offers a colour tint which enhances the natural colour of your eye. This type can sometimes be lost on really dark eyes as the colour vanishes into the natural colour. It is like putting water colour on top of oil paint.
The second type is an ‘opaque’ lens. This puts a thick layer of colour over the iris which masks all natural colours. They are not a solid colour but a mixture of hues just like a real eye. The centre of the lens is clear so as not to affect your vision.
You can then enter the world contact lens design. There are literally hundreds of different designs readily available on the internet that you can choose from. These range from the eyes of a cat to the eyes of a vampire. You can choose fluorescent, animalistic, mirrored, bloody or horrific just to mention a few.
